Sun Loyal Vinyards
My best friend’s husband’s family owns a wine label in Oregon. I was helping them give feedback to their designer on their new labels and it inspired me to create my own imaginary wine company branding.
During the summer of 2021 I took a trip to Paso Robles, California and really fell in love with the area and the people I met. I imagined that Sun Loyal is a young family owned vineyard in Paso Robles. They want the branding to reflect the California casual attitude, the organic process of wine making, and appeal to new generations of wine enthusiasts.
I drew inspiration from native plants in the area for the spot illustrations. I noticed while in Paso Robles many of the wineries had interesting names for each of their wines since many are blends of different grapes. I named each of the wines with a name that related back to the sky/sun/atmosphere.
The name of my fictitious winery came from the process of wine making itself. Grapes for wine are dependent on the sun. How much and how little sun grapes receive affects their taste, quality, and when they are harvested. The name, target audience, and location then inspired the color palette and use of gradients in the labels. I developed a system for the labels that can be used for each new wine.
Sun Loyal is organic, adventurous, and embodies California wine making at it’s finest.
