Mollie's Journey to Letterpress
The plot thickens…
Once I got my press and my studio finished I had a moment of “oh sh*t, what do I do now?”
I needed to learn how to use the press and I needed some things to make! I drew a set of illustrated monograms (which I still think are pretty great and sell!) and a few different sayings for notecards.
I then enrolled in Paper Camp, a wholesale stationery class. I learned a lot about the stationery business and started making my own greeting cards. I did pop-ups and makers markets and met a lot of great people. I love making greeting cards but I missed connecting and collaborating with others.
While I had been teaching full time I also did freelance design on the weekends and evenings. During that time I designed a number of wedding suites and really enjoyed that process.
Like any lifelong learner… I enrolled in an online conference for stationers.
As Jenny Komenda (interior designer extraordinaire and good advice giver) said to reflect on what you do and ask yourself “What should I continue doing? What should I stop doing? What should I start doing?”
Continue : I’ll continue to make greeting cards because it’s fun! I’ll continue to design for people because I like connection and making for others.
Stop : I’ll stop taking design projects that don’t give me joy so that I can focus on letterpress and wedding stationery.
Start : I’ll start focusing on custom letterpress wedding stationery primarily. I’ll start making more greeting cards for life’s events.
Here I am and I’m ready to design your dream letterpress wedding paper. My whole life has been leading up to this moment.
