The Custom Letterpress Invitation Design Process

What to Expect

Everything starts with an initial free consultation phone call. I like to hear your vision for your wedding and ask questions in real time on what you’re looking for in your custom letterpress wedding invitations. I want the details! I like clear communication.

We will discuss your overall feel and vibe for the event including location/venue but also I want to know a little bit about you as a couple. Did you two meet in an unexpected way? Do y’all always go to a certain restaurant every week? Do you have pets together? No matter how seemingly random it can spark inspiration that finds its way into the stationery design.

During our call we will also discuss your wants and needs for the stationery. Will there be a rehearsal dinner? I can design that invitation too. Will you have a lot of out of town guests? Then maybe you should include a details card. Exact times and guest lists aren’t required at this time, an educated guess will do.

After our chat, I will work on a general estimate for the scope of your stationery. After your approval the design process begins!

The first thing I do for any project is to create a moodboard and color palette. Moodboards are great because once you get them right they really help lead the project from start to finish. I refer to the moodboard at all stages of design to ensure the original vision and design stays true and consistent.

Here’s an example of a moodboard I created for a desert themed wedding:

Once we have a moodboard and color palette I move on to creating concept sketches for all stationery pieces. These are concepts not final proofs. This is to ensure all pieces have a cohesive look and layout of elements. Here’s an example of concept sketches for the desert themed suite:

Once concepts are approved then I turn them into reality! Final paper, ink, and envelope options are chosen. Any upgrade elements can still be added at this point including wax seals, ribbon, and vintage postage.

All you have to do is relax and know that your invitations are being taken care of with the utmost care and detail. You have a lot on your mind, let me take some of the load.
